attack on Clark Field, the planes returned to the carrier group and encountered a
severe storm.  Aircraft were waved off and instructed to circle.  58254 radioed
that 41621 was with him and that they were making a water landing.  Neither
aircraft nor pilots were ever seen again.

in support of Operation Crossroads series of nuclear tests in the Pacific.  Transferred to NAS Norfolk
and made last flight Mar 25, 1947.   Assigned to National Air Museum Nov 3, 1948 and moved to storage 
in 1960 at the Paul Garber Restoration Facility, Suitland MD.  Loaned to USS Yorktown Museum at Charleston,
South Carolina in 1976.  Returned to NASM Mar 16, 1982.  In 1983 sent to Grumman Aerospace for complete
restoration.  In 1985 shipped back to the Garber Restoration and Storage Facility.  Noted
Dec 2005 in Udvar-Hazy faciliy of NASM, Chantilly, VA

of trailblazing.  Aircraft was completly destroyed.  Due to the extreme terrain and climate, pilot's remains 
were buried at the scene.

Research Center  Jun 22, 1945 until Sep 9, 1960 as NACA 158 for variable stability research.
Modified for variable stability use. In 1948, the aircraft was modified by Ames engineers 
to become the world's first variable stability aircraft. Used for generalized studies of 
lateral-directional flying qualities criteria and as an in-flight simulator for new aircraft 
under development.  Now on display at the San Diego Air Museum.
43014 reported May 2006 to be under restoration at Fantasy of Flight,
Polk City, FL
43066 bought by Uruguayan Naval Aviation / Aviación Naval Uruguaya. Refurbished by Cobell Industries and delivered 
1952 as A-453.   Ferried to Fort Worth, TX, departing Mar 28, 1952 from the Uruguyuan Naval Base at Capitan Corbeta CA

43102 destroyed on ground by crashing PB4Y-1 38766 Aug 9, 1944, Eniwetok.
