Frye from Burbank, CA to Washington, DC Apr 17, 1944 in an unofficial record of 6 hours, 58 min.
Sold to Hughes Aircraft Co after the war as NX67900, repurchased by 
Lockheed May 1, 1950 and reregistered NC25600 .  Converted to prototype L.1049 Super Constellation summer
1950  as Model 049S MSN 19618 and registered NX6700.  During 1952, converted to aerodynamic test vehicle
for Navy early warning Super Constellation.  Tested with Allison YT-56 turboprop engine fitted in no. 4

landing gear while landing at Zatec, Czechoslovakia Jul 13, 
1948 but repaired.  Returned to USA Oct 22, 1949 for 
overhaul.  Registered as N90829, wfu and stored later in 
1949.  El Al purchased the plane in April 1951 and 
registered in Israel as 4X-AKA and converted to 63-seat 
Model 149.  Shot down by Bulgarian MiG-15 fighters Jul 26, 1955
while cruising above Yugoslavia/Bulgaria border.  All crew and 
58 passengers killed.  Date of loss also quoted as Jul 27, 
1955.  Bulgarians may have mistaken this plane for a USAF 
RC-121 electronic reconnaissance plane.

Bought by Christler Flying Service May 5, 1970 and used as sprayer and registered as N9464.  Reregistered
to Chandler Flying Serive Jul 10, 1970.  To Beaver Air Spray in Canada Apr 18, 1979 as C-CXKO.  To Conifair Aviation
in 1980.  Sold to John Travolta Sep 1984 and registered as N494TW.  WFU and stored Ryan Field, AZ.  
Acquired by Vern Raburn Sep 1991 and extensively restored.   Still flying as N494TW.  I
saw this plane 8-5-95 at Freedom Flight, Aurora, Ill.  Delivered Apr 2005 to unspecified owner in South Korea.  
Arrived at Pusan Apr 9, 2005 and repainted in Korean National Airline

610 named *Colombine II* while used by President-elect Eisenhower in 
1952.  Leased to Pan Am as N9907F, then N9007E where it was transferred to govt of
Thailand.  Returned to USAF Jun 1955.  Retired from USAF Apr 1968.  To Christler
Flying Service as N9463.  Now registered to Columbine II of Santa Fe, NM, where
it has been parked since 1998 when it returned from an unsuccessful sale at
auction at Scottsdale, Arizona.  Seen at Marana, Arizona in 2011.  Still owned by Christler Flying Service
and still at Marana, Arizona in 2015.  They plan to restore it and returned it to flying status.

has now ben reserved since Feb 25, 2004.

Wreckage sank in 150 feet of water the next day.
616 to Ethiopian Airlines as ET-T-35.  Crashlanded in gear-up forced landing 41 km from 
Khartoum Jul 10, 1957 due to midair engine fire.   6 crew and 14 passengers, no fatalities.
617 to VC-121A, then VC-121B, then to Christler Flying Service as N9467, then 
to Beaver Air Spray as C-GXKS.  After hydraulics failure forced the crew to make
a precautionalry landing at Riviere du Loup, Canada Jun 21, 1979, the brakes failed and 
aircraft overran the runway and was DBR.

7144 (MSN 194) preserved at the SST Aviation Museum, Kissimmee FL 1973 to 1981, on loan from the National 
Museum of the US Air Force.  Transferred to the Museum of Aviation, Robins AFB, Warner Robins, GA, still
on loan from the National Museum of the US Air Force.  Warner Robins Air Logistics Center was responsible 
for program management and logistics support for all HU-16s in the USAF inventory. The aircraft on 
display was delivered to the USAF in December 1954 and assigned to the 41st Air Rescue Squadron at 
Hamilton AFB, California. In June 1964 it was transferred to the 33rd Air Rescue Squadron at Naha AB, 
Okinawa, Japan. While assigned to the 33rd it made numerous deployments to Vietnam, performing 
rescue operations from various bases in the area. In April 1967 it returned to the United States 
and served with various units before being retired from the 301st Aerospace Rescue and Recovery 
Training Squadron at Homestead AFB, Florida in June 1971. It was one of the first aircraft placed 
at the Museum of Aviation at Robins AFB in 1983.
7145 (MSN 195) lost over Gulf of Tonkin Oct 18, 1966. All crew MIA.  The aircraft departed Da Nang, Vietnam 
on an afternoon patrol over the Gulf of Tonkin. Weather worsened and the flight failed to return. 
Rescue missions failed to locate the plane. The last radio contact was about 40 miles off Dong Hoi
