Air National Guard units eventually being dropped from the USAF inventory in 1982.   In October 1982 the Skymaster was 
installed and dedicated in the Hurlburt Field Memorial Air Park, Florida

cancelled Dec 23, 1997 on export to Solomon Islands.  In 1997 the United States Government donated two 
civilianised ex-military Cessna O-2 aircraft to the Solomon Islands, for use by the government and 
police force. Unfortunately, no funding was provided for operating these aircraft, and so they remained 
in their delivery containers. After a while they became subject to vandalism and weather damage. 
In 2008 they were both transferred to the Civil Aviation Department and moved to the Solair hangar at 
Honiara Airport, where some restoration work was initiated. This work soon stopped and the wrecks abandoned. 
They were still there in April 2010.

civilianised ex-military Cessna O-2 aircraft to the Solomon Islands, for use by the government and police 
force. Unfortunately, no funding was provided for operating these aircraft, and so they remained in 
their delivery containers. After a while they became subject to vandalism and weather damage. In 2008 
they were both transferred to the Civil Aviation Department and moved to the Solair hangar at Honiara 
Airport, where some restoration work was initiated. This work soon stopped and the wrecks abandoned. 
They were still there in April 2010.

According to Mr. Nieser he purchased the aircraft fuselage, but the wings and tail section were turned
over to Wright-Patterson AFB for testing.
August 1st 2015 Fuselage of 7646 along with wings, tail section, 1 engine core, 1 propeller core, and 
other small items from other O-2 aircraft was turned over to a 501(C)3 Non-Profit Organization called Light Horse 
Legacy, aircraft is now currently in Anderson, South Carolina being restored back to original U.S. Air
Force configuration, non-flyable static display.
