23728 (93rd BG, 330th BS, *Hot Stuff*) was the first American heavy bomber to achieve 25 missions in WW2. It crashed
on Mt Fagradalsfjlall in Iceland May 3, 1943 on the way back to USA. General Frank M Andrews (commander of US forces in
Eurpoean theatre of operations) was killed, along with all others aboard the aircraft except the tail
gunner, who was found alive in the wreckage. Andrews AFB in Maryland is named in his honor.
I also have 23728 (44th BG) lost Dec 16, 1943. MACR 4709. This may be the date
of the official accident report for the May 3 accident.
23729 (93rd BG, 328th BS, 'Shoot Luke') shot down by Obfw Robert Roller
in BF 109G-5 of JG3/6 over North Sea, 215 km N of Texel,
Netherlands Oct 18, 1943. MACR 4927. 10 KIA
23731 (90th BG, 319th BS) exploded in flight Mar 16, 1943, SW Pacific
23732 (93rd BG, 409th BS, "Liberty Lass") shot down by Obfw.

23733 (451st BG, 725th BS, *Skippy*) aborted on Aug 1, 1943 mission
to Ploesti. The name *The Toonerville Trolley* was added to the
name later. Finally named *Skipper* when transferred to 451st BG
as a war-weary ship and served as a transport. Returned to
USA May 1945.
23734 (93rd BG) crashed on landing at Ludham, England Feb 26, 1943
23737 (446th BG "Eager Beaver") declared war weary and used as formation
assembly ship "Fearless Freddie". Replaced by 42-7654
23738 (93rd Bombardment Group, 330th Bombardment Squadron). Transferred and became assembly ship of
453rd Bombardment Group at RAF Old Buckenham. Nick-named ‘Wham Bam’. Fin and rudders damaged in
collision with formating aircraft. Scrapped May 11, 1945.
23740 (MSN 535, 93rd BG, 409th BS) named "Red Ass" forced landed due to fuel exhaustion at Tiztoutine,
Spanish Morocco Feb 25, 1943 during ferry flight from Port Lyautey, French Morocco to England.
23742 (934d BG, 409th BS, "Liberty Lad") participated in Aug 1, 1943 Ploesti raid.
23744 (93rd BG, 3285h BS, *Geronimo*) nosewheel collapsed on takeoff
at Tafaroui, Algeria Dec 12, 1943.
23745 (93rd BG) crashed at Little Stukeley, England Nov 18, 1942, probably
on approach to Alconbury.
23747 (436th BS, 7th BG) lost Jul 2, 1943, India. MACR 31
23749 (93rd BG) bellylanded in field near AQlconbury base Nov 18, 1942
after two engines failed during return from missin to
Lorient. Bottom of aircraft ripped out by hedgerow
ditch, killing four crew and injuring six.
