to oil refinery at Hamburg.  Both aircraft became locked together.  3 crew killed, 4 bailed out and
became POW.  Pilot and copilot able to crashland at Wilhelmshaven, Germany.  Both captured and became
POW.  MACR 11550
31988 (381st BG) crashed and burned on takeoff Apr 22, 1944 at Polebrook.
31989 (95th BG, 336th BS, *Black Magic*) diverted to Switzerland Feb 25, 1945
after being severely damaged by flak and fighters over 
southern Germany.  Crew bailed out safely but aircraft flew on
and crashlanded in forest clearing at southern end of Lake
Baldegger.  Plane later dismantled, parts stored at
Dubendorf and scrapped after the war.

32000 was Gee-H pathfinder aircraft.  Lost 2 engines to flak over
France Jul 4, 1944.  When third engine began to lose power,
bellylanded in field at Felpham, England.   Aircraft ended up
in back garden of No 18 Downview Road with wingtip within six
feet of back door of house.  Two crew members had been slightly
injured.  Pilot took tea with the lady of the house. 25 years
later to the day (Jul 4, 1969) he returned to take tea with her
again.
