N51DJ, plus other numbers which are uncertain. A mystery is appearing here! After RCAF
service it appears that this aircraft became N51N, and in 1981 C-FBAU. However, C-FBAU
crashed in Ontario Jul 7, 1984; whilst the two occupants escaped unhurt, it appears that
the aircraft was destroyed by fire with only the starboard horizontal stabiliser salvageable.
However, the registration C-GZQX was reserved July 1985 for a P-51 claiming
to be formerly 44-73140; this registration appears never to have been taken
up, the aircraft becoming N314BG in August 1986. There is also mention of
registration N151PA being reserved circa 1988 but never taken up. To confuse
matters further, by 1990 N314BG was painted as 44-14151 'Petie 2nd'.

killing both pilot and passenger. Rebuilt using fuselage of N6526D
AURI airframe. At one time it was modified as a racer named Voodoo Chile (N551VC).
According to some sources, N6526D was acquired by the RAF Museum and for
many years and was displayed at Hendon painted as '413573'; it has the RAF
'bookkeeping' identity 9133M (as the aircraft is nominally on RAF charge, it
must have an RAF serial - such 'bookkeeping' identities are allocated from
the 'M-suffix' series normally allocated to airframes relegated to ground
instructional duties). It has recently been moved from Hendon to the RAF
Museum at Cosford. It was ceremoniously handed over to the RAF Museum Apr 20, 1989
at RAF Halton. I have seen a photo of N551VC taken in 2009, so the plane at the RAF
Museum might not be 44-73415. Still active as N551VD, named "Voodoo" ant took part in 2013 Reno Air Races.

The true identity of FAS 404 has been a long-time mystery, although some sources
claim it to be former USAAF 44-73458. Indeed, the wreckage of this airframe was acquired by a Jack W. Flaherty
(Flaherty Factors Inc, Monterey, CA) on Oct. 28, 1974, however, the problem with this serial number is that FAS 404
was shot down over Honduran territory on July 17, 1969 by Capt. Fernando Soto Henríquez. Only bits and pieces of
this Salvadoran Cavalier were recovered from the crash site. A second Salvadoran Mustang was given
serial 404, sometime after the July 1969 conflict with Honduras, which could be airframe 44-73458.

73656 on civil registry as N5073K with Duncan Aeromotive, Galveston, TX.
A mystery may be emerging here! According to an article in a 1990
edition of 'FlyPast' magazine, this aircraft became N5073K in February 1958
and was sold (probably illegally) to the EL Salvador AF in 1968 as FAS406.
The article goes on to say that it returned to USA in 1974 under the false
identity of 44-12473, was registered N32FF and later N2151D, being by 1990
painted as 44-14273 'Moonbeam McSwine'. However, both N5073K and N2151D appear
to be current in the Landings database, N5073K being
quoted as 44-73656 and N2151D being quoted as 'P-51D 44-12473', although
44-12473 is/was a P-51K! The current FAA database lists the airfrme as
being 44-12473. Aircraft was repainted as 44-14273, but the
numbers got transposed on the registration document as 44-12473.
