Douglas DC-5s from Dutch KNILM impressed into USAAF's 5th Air Force service in 1942 and leased to 
ANA for service in Australia/New Guinea as VH-CXA/CXC on behalf of the Allied Directorate for 
Air Transportation , then impressed by the USAAF in 1944 as C-110 and operated by the 374th 
Troop Carrier Group, 5AF.   
83230 (MSN 428) was PH-AXE at KLM, then PK-ADB with KNILM.  To civil registry as VH-CXA.  
Destroyed on ground during Japanese attack on Ward's Strip, Australia Aug 17, 1942 before
it was reserialed as 44-83230.
83231 (MSN 424) was PH-AXA (name "Wakago") for KLM, then PJ-AIW with KLM in West Indies, then PK-ADD with
KNILM.  To civil registry as VH-CXB.  Damaged in forced landing Nov 6, 1942 east of
Charleville, Qld and used for spares for VH-CXC.  Broken up at Melbourne-Essendon in 1946.
83232 (MSN 426) had orginally been ordered by British Airways as G-AFYK, but the
order was cancelled.  Purchased by KLM as PH-AXB, but
delivered to KLM West Indies as PJ-AIZ.  To KNILM in 1941 as PK-ADC .  Transferred to
Allied Directorate of Air Transport and operated by ANA as VH-CXC.  Formally returned to USAAF
Apr 3, 1944.  Leased to ANA as VH-CXC.  Sold to ANA in 1945.   In 1946
it became VH-ARD of New Holland Airways, but still marked as VH-CXC.  Flown to Israel
in 1948 and taken on charge by Israeli AF and flew missions during the June 1948 war.
It was seen in Haifa in 1948, by which time its Australian registration had been cancelled. 
Became ground instructional airframe in 1949 and scrapped at Haifa in mid 1950s.
